Our vision as a Children’s Ministry is to “create a safe space where children are encouraged to wonder, question, and grow in their faith by nurturing relationships with God, each other, their families, our church family, and the world."
Children's Sunday School. The hour begins at 10am every Sunday. Children meet at their classrooms for check-in and check-out. This gives parents the opportunity to meet teachers and hear about the lesson for the day. Check-in is 10am and check-out is 10:50am. Students meet in the following classrooms:
PreK: Classroom #4
K/1st: Classroom #1
2nd/3rd: Classroom #2
4th/5th: Club45 Room
Infant and Nursery Care is always provided between 8:45am-Noon. Check-in for Nursery Care is Classroom #5.
Why sign in and out every Sunday? We want to make sure your child arrives safely where they are supposed to be. Signing in each Sunday keeps kids safe AND gives you an opportunity to see your child’s teacher each week. Signing children out will ensure that same level of safety while providing the teachers the opportunity to hand off any important papers or priceless works of art that may have been created!
Curriculum. Kindergarten, First Grade, and Fourth/Fifth Grade classes use Whirl Lectionary! Second/Third Grade class follows a traditional sequential Bible Study model of major highlights in the Bible.
What happens during a Whirl Lectionary lesson?
Every Whirl Lectionary lesson follows a four-part sequence: Welcome, Hear, Respond, and Launch (WHRL!). Each week kids and leaders start their time together by identifying where they are in the church year and watching an animated video. Next, they dive into the Whirl Story Bible or Whirl NRSV Bible, respond to the scripture lesson with creative leaflet activities, and circle up to review the lesson and pray before being sent out.
What is the purpose of the lesson video?
The lesson videos are designed to set up the lesson each Sunday. Kids watch animated characters their own age encounter real questions and challenges as they live out their faith. The videos are designed to help kids start thinking about what they would do in similar situations, instead of telling kids what to do.
How is color used in Whirl Lectionary?
Each item of the Whirl Lectionary curriculum is marked with color and an icon to help leaders and kids know the liturgical season of the church year they are in each Sunday. The color and icons also help pre-readers engage with the rhythms of the church seasons by enabling them to experience the lectionary through age-appropriate visual cues.
CHURCH FAMILY CAMP (August). Church Family Camp is a wonderful weekend filled with fun, fellowship, worship, and the great outdoors. Hosted at John Knox Center, in Ten Mile, TN, this weekend retreat is a great chance to get to know each other. From infants to senior adults, this weekend is a church favorite!
GODLY PLAY (11am Service). Godly Play is a worship experience for children K to 3rd grade during the 11:00 worship service. Children are invited to experience a story told through props and then wonder aloud about their meaning.
Afterwards, children are given an opportunity to respond to the story by working with a story, creative writing, or materials off of our art cart.
