Report on Trip in April
Our youth rode off into the Sunset on April 15-17 ( Sunset Gap that is). Will
Ruch, Sky Fahm, Ashley Schenk, Tori Sindorf, Debbie Miller, Catherine Slagle,
Jessica Slagle, Mary McCreedy, and Kyle Taber spent the weekend working to
repair “Vonna’s” home near Cosby, TN.
They were accompanied by Dave
and Judy Slagle, Jenny Cox, Dana Stubsten, and Lorraine Rockwood. Jonathan
Pflug and his assistant Jason directed and worked with them. Vonna’s house is
a “work-in-progress”, with our group doing its part in the renovations needed
at her home. The hard-working crew tore off an eight foot section of roofing,
laid down new plywood and roofing felt and then nailed new metal roofing in
place. Others of the group stained and waterproofed her new front porch,
assisted in hanging two new front doors, hauled and stored additional building
materials, and salvaged any useable material left from the site.
The
beautiful creek near her house provided a place for recreation during breaks
in the work. After the day’s work was done, the entire group attended a Cosby
PTA fund-raising event called “Taste of the Smokies”. Eleven of the fourteen
from Rivermont won door prizes! (Check out Dave’s hat.)
As one of
the youth said; “It's neat to be one of the groups that have had a part in
improving Vonna’s home.” Amen.
