Cholesterol
Awareness
September is National
Cholesterol Education and Awareness Month. Cholesterol in excess can lead to
arteriosclerosis or hardening of the arteries, which can decrease blood flow to
vital organs. This disease develops gradually and can easily go
undetected.
Lifestyle changes can make an important impact on
preventing further cholesterol build up. God spoke to Israel through the
prophet Jeremiah and said to “...plant gardens and eat their produce.” This is
good advice. A diet low in fat and sugar and high in fresh fruits and
vegetables is low in cholesterol.
Also one should quit
smoking, exercise regularly, and control blood pressure and diabetes. See your
doctor for further evaluation and treatment.
