List of Stephen Ministers and History
You Can Share in the Stephen Ministry of Christian
Care Giving at
Rivermont Presbyterian Church
Background:
Stephen Ministries is a
ministry of Christian care-giving developed by Dr. Kenneth Haugk, a Lutheran
pastor in St. Louis Missouri, in 1977. It has expanded rapidly to several
thousand Christian congregations.
Rivermont Presbyterian Church trained
and equipped its first 13 Stephen Ministers in early 1993. Since then,
Rivermont has trained five additional classes for this ministry. Current
Stephen Ministers are now making regular contacts with persons in need of a
Christian friend. Stephen Ministers meet the first and third Wednesday
evenings for follow-up and continuing education in this confidential caring
ministry.
“Bear one another’s burdens,“ the Scripture says in Galatians
6:2. In the love of Christ, Stephen Ministries are sharing burdens like
illness, grief or loneliness.
