Katrina Angels from RPC to MS

Mission team report

ANGELS

Have you ever thought you might be considered an angel to someone? That’s what a
group of volunteers was called as they worked on a house in Bay St. Louis, MS.
The home belonged to a couple with two recently adopted darling boys. Their new
house was ready to be sheet-rocked when Katrina hit. Their dream was destroyed
but instead of receiving immediate help they asked for their neighbors, Pat and
Willie, to be recipients of the help. Soon it was their turn to be helped so
Sterling Creamer, Ross Russell, Steve Russell, Joyce and Bob Bay, Gene Stubsten,
Bob Reid, and Jenny Cox were there to help get their home ready to be painted.
The lady of the house came by with one of the boys and was exuberant to see how
nicely the house was looking. She cried while she told her story and then called
us “her angels”. We all had a good cry and a peaceful feeling. The real angels
were the neighbors, Willie and Pat, who fed lunch to all the volunteers each
day. They have such pride and want to show appreciation for all the work the Bay
St. Louis Presbyterian Church volunteers are doing. We certainly did not
complain as the food was delicious.

If you would like to be an angel for someone in Mississippi look for future
trips in June and October. Just ask a volunteer about the experience and you
will realize what being an angel feels like.
