Activities for and with people who are 60 or older, whether or not they
admit it!
Like a carrot, the most significant aspect of Senior Adult Ministry
lies beneath the surface, in confidential times of fellowship between the
director of SAM and individual Seniors.
Another important facet occurs
when adult children face serious decisions about their aging parents. The
issues of independent living, major illness, and end of life create tremendous
stress as children find themselves parenting their parents. The SAM offers
pastoral care for the adult children, as well as their Senior Adult
parents.
Senior Adults enjoy true community when they meet in small
groups, to discuss--and argue--material presented in a variety of curricula.
Throughout the year, classes can be scheduled for "Taking Care of Business", or
resolving unresolved emotional issues from life. Other classes are available in
establishing Healthy Boundaries, and overcoming perfectionism, or that feeling
you're Never Good Enough. If you are interested in learning more about any of
these programs, call Carol Secord at 877-8527, or email her at
csecord@riverontpc.org.
Seniors meet weekly for Bible Study, led by Rev.
C.K. "Bud" Little. The fourth Wednesday of most months, we gather at 10:30 to
assemble the monthly newsletter. Seniors (we let non-Seniors
participate as well) build bone density and increase balance with Tai Chi class
every Thursday at 4 pm in the gym. A grief recovery group meets the fourth
Wednesday of each month at 9:30 am.
A group of dedicated knitters,
crocheters and quilters gather the first and third Wednesdays of each month to
make comfort shawls, baby blankets, and afghan squares. This summer, we will
meet at 1 pm in the Robinson Room.
Two important Rivermont ministries
originated in Senior Adult Ministry: The Rivermont Men's Group (RPM) and the
Travel & Entertainment Committee. See those sections for more information.
Please check the "Events" listing for information about
opportunities coming up for Senior Adults.
PLEASE NOTE: The
Reassurance program of CONTACT provides a daily phone call to anyone who is
isolated from the community. Carol Secord has literature and applications. )
